Teachers as Readers: Jokes, Riddles and Books That Make You Laugh
Join us for a lively discussion filled with humor as we look forward to 2026 NYSRA Conference - Playful Literacies!
Humor-filled literature is a powerful educational tool that helps students develop a love of reading while strengthening literacy skills in an engaging and enjoyable way. Funny stories, clever riddles and playful word games encourage readers to think critically, build vocabulary and make connections through laughter. Humor can also create a welcoming classroom environment, reduce stress and help students relate to characters and situations in meaningful ways.
Participants are encouraged to bring your favorite humorous books, joke collections or riddles to share, too!
A bibliography of all books discussed, and more, will be shared with attendees following the event.
When: Tuesday, September 29, 2026, starting at 7 p.m.
Where: Via Zoom
The discussion will be led by Karen Brungard and Bonnie Yanklowitz.
A reminder with the Zoom link for this event will be sent on Monday, September 28, to all registered attendees around noon.
