Request for Proposals:

“Everyone could use a little magic
  in their lives; moments when

the heart & mind are moved”

from “Quiet Tricks” in Love from the Vortex
by Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz

In her book Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy, Dr. Gholdy Muhammad offers literacy educators a practical methodology for bringing “a little magic” into the lives of students, especially students who have been underserved in schools for far too long.

Syracuse, New York, the location for this year’s conference, is home to a rich history of literacy and abolition. It is at this intersection where this year’s conference takes place. As such, this year’s conference asks us to consider: How can we build upon the history of abolition to embrace the multiple literacies of youth? What culturally relevant & sustaining teaching practices can and should be leveraged to center the identities and stories of youth, their families, and their communities? How can we build an equitable and just future that our youth deserve?

This year’s theme, Cultivating Genius, takes up this call to focus on best practices, research, and instructional strategies for restoring equity and excellence in today’s literacy classrooms and empowering youth to find and nurture their own genius through literacy.

Deadline for proposals (individual, roundtable, poster) is Monday, May 30, 2022.
