ADDITIONAL INFORMATION  -  PLEASE KEEP FOR YOUR REFERENCE

Program Length
Sessions may be planned for:   1 hour, 2 hours, or 4 hours.
Several 4 hour sessions will be selected and scheduled for Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2010, and should be designed to provide participants with in-depth knowledge or hands-on experience regarding the topic of the session.

Session Formats

Seminars are designed to present or demonstrate an aspect of reading, writing, learning or language development.  Opportunities for group interaction should be included.

Hands-on Workshops are designed to provide an opportunity for conferees to participate in a “hands-on” experience.  Formal presentation should be kept to a minimum with the major portion of the time devoted to active involvement of each participant with the materials and topics under discussion.

Speak to the Issues are sessions designed to identify and address a specific issue or policy related to literacy.  The issue should appear as the title of the presentation.  In the program abstract, the thesis should be cited in a sentence or two followed by a brief rationale for the position of the statement.  Panel presentations are encouraged, as well as audience response and discussion.

Teaching and Learning Strategies are sessions designed to disseminate information about classroom practices that have been shown to improve teaching, learning, curriculum or assessments from the perspective of the teacher.  A connection to literacy is expected as well as one or more specific strategies that teachers can use immediately upon return to their classrooms.

Research Forums are designed to disseminate the findings of literacy research and to relate the findings to teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment.  Any research study that has been completed in the last three years is eligible.  Audience response and discussion are encouraged.

Creative Funding Opportunities are sessions designed to disseminate information about grants or other funding opportunities for educational purposes.
